For the first time Plettenberg Bay played host to the Knysna & Garden Route Rose
Society (K&GRRS) Spring Rose Show. Saturday, 26 October started early for the
helpers at the K&GRRS Spring Rose Show, there was an atmosphere of excitement
and comradery amongst them as they entered their own roses before the rush. The
roses were beautiful, and there were more entries this year than at the Autumn
Rose Show held in Knysna last year. It was very encouraging to see the number of
Novice Exhibitors; these were people who entered for the first time and had never
won a prize on a rose show before and included members of the public. Thanks to
the generosity of our sponsors we were able to present great prizes to our winners.
Plett and Knysna residents enjoyed a feast of wonderful scents and blooms
In total we had 32 Exhibitors with 190 entries. Exhibitors paid an entry fee of R50
and could have unlimited entries. The proceeds from the entrance fee as well as
sale of raffle tickets, came to R3 500 however we are still awaiting donations
promised to be deposited so approximately R5000. K&GRRS believe in supporting
community initiatives and the proceeds of this show will be used for a specific
project, to be decided together with Green Hearts NPO who work with abused
children in Plett.
